“My problem was tricky, and I suspected there wasn’t much more that could be done. Elder Care Choices confirmed that suspicion but did offer additional ways to help handle the problem, which I really appreciate.”

Local Presence, National Reach
Elder Care Choices is an employee benefit provided by subscribing companies. The service is designed to save employees time in identifying and locating appropriate resources related to caregiving such as Medicare options, and long-term care for a loved one. It was developed in 1995 in response to a growing demand within the local business community for a program to help employees manage and balance their work and caregiving responsibilities. A consortium of the area’s leading employers worked with Senior Services to create this innovative service.
Since its inception, the program has grown and expanded as more employers are realizing the dramatic impact that caregiving can have on their staff members and workplace efficiency.
What Does Elder Care Choices Do?
- Identify needs and appropriate services for the loved one for whom the employee provides care.
- Locate resources for older adults living anywhere in the United States.
- Create a comprehensive referral package, including profiles of services which have been identified. The package is emailed to the employee.
- Provide assistance with Medicare questions and choosing plans. All Elder Care Choices counselors are SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) certified.
Who are Considered "Caregivers"?
Sometimes people do caregiving tasks and do not even think of themselves as a caregiver. Below are some examples of what a caregiver may do:
- Provide hands-on help with bathing, dressing, toileting, etc.
- Help with errands (e.g., grocery shopping, pharmacy pick-ups, etc.).
- Aid in transportation, like driving a loved one to the doctor.
- Help with household chores or yard work.
- Assist with bill-paying and other financial matters.
- Provide a listening ear.
- Help a sibling who is helping a loved one.
