WHY WE DO IT | Meet Kim

As we celebrate Social Workers Month this March, we are thrilled to highlight Kim Stull, Program Specialist at the Williams Adult Day Center, who exemplifies the heart of social work and compassionate care for older adults. Kim’s journey to her role at Senior Services was clearly marked by a deep-rooted passion for working with older adults, helping them heal, grow, engage, and find their purpose.

Kim’s path began long before she took on her current role. Her life’s intention has always been to work in a care facility where she could support older adults. For over ten years, Kim has volunteered with Senior Services delivering Meals-on-Wheels each week, all while raising her children, who often joined her on the routes during school holidays. By involving her children, Kim fostered a sense of community and the joy of helping others, creating lasting memories and friendships in the process. Her daughters and several other family members continue to volunteer with Senior Services today.

Her academic journey in social work started later in life when she transferred from Forsyth Tech, where she received her Associate in Arts degree, to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) to pursue a Bachelor of Social Work. After completing her coursework, she needed an internship that would align with her career aspirations.

Naturally, Senior Services was her top choice, and she was thrilled to be placed with the “Creative Connections” program, where she primarily worked with Opening Minds Through Art (OMA). This innovative and award-winning initiative focuses on intergenerational connection through abstract art for people living with dementia. It was here that Kim further honed her skills and deepened her commitment to serving older adults.

After graduating with her Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from UNCG on a Friday, Kim was offered a full-time position at the Williams Adult Day Center starting the following Monday—proof of her dedication and passion. Since then, Kim has been an integral part of the Williams Center team, where she works closely with the participants each day, engaging them in various activities such as abstract art classes, puzzles, trivia games, reminiscing sessions, and more.

Kim’s enthusiasm for the Williams Center’s role in the community is palpable. She believes that the Center provides not only an enriching environment for the seniors but also relieves family caregivers from the demanding task of caring for their loved ones “24/7.” The presence of the Family Services daycare center on-site fosters meaningful intergenerational interactions, further strengthening the sense of community. Additionally, the Williams Center partners with several nonprofit organizations housed within the beautiful Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness to serve other community needs. This collaborative spirit creates a rich, inclusive environment rarely seen in community settings like ours.

Whether it’s singing along to a live Elvis performance, enjoying the companionship of visiting pets, or simply creating memories with friends, the Williams Center offers opportunities for joy, connection, and purpose every day. As Kim reflects on the role of the Williams Adult Day Center, she is adamant that aging can be a gift, one filled with joy.

As we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Williams Adult Day Center, it’s clear that Kim’s work embodies the Center’s mission of providing peace, joy, and purpose to the people we serve. For Kim, the Williams Center is much more than a workplace—it’s an extension of family. “The Williams Center is a place for peace, joy, and purpose,” she says.

In honor of National Social Workers Month, we salute Kim Stull for her dedication, compassion, and tireless work in enriching the lives of older adults. Her commitment to helping others is a true reflection of the values of social work, and we are proud to have her as a key member of our team.
