A New Year and a New Beginning for Long-Time Staffer
After 18 years of compassionate service to older adults, Anita Abernathy is retiring.
After 18 years of dedicated service organizing and coordinating volunteers in the Meals-on-Wheels department, Operations Coordinator, Anita Abernathy has announced her retirement. Anita has become like a member of the family for countless Meals-on-Wheels volunteers over the years, as she managed routes and volunteer needs with the expertise and professionalism of an air traffic controller. Our Shorefair volunteers will miss her smiling face and having her greet them in the pick-up room each weekday. Her official last day is Friday, January 4, but she will continue helping the Meals-on-Wheels team during the transition.
Here’s a little Q&A with our beloved retiree:
What are you most looking forward to about retirement? “Being in control of my own clock and (having) the freedom to explore new adventures.”
What will you miss most about MOW? “Let me count the ways—not seeing my super co-workers and my many wonderful volunteer friends on a daily basis.”
Thank you, Anita, for all you’ve done to positively impact the lives of many of our volunteers and seniors!
