15th Annual Art Show & Sale: A Heartfelt Celebration of Art and Community Impact

Postings |

The creative pulse of Forsyth County beats a little stronger each year, thanks to an inspiring event that not only celebrates local talent but also supports one of the most vital services for older adults in our community.

This March marks the 15th Annual Senior Services Art Show & Sale benefiting Meals-on-Wheels, an event created 15 years ago by a group of visionary artists who wanted to make a difference. With a commitment to giving back, they crafted an opportunity for local artists to showcase their work while benefiting the Senior Services Meals-on-Wheels program.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness on the Senior Services campus. Best of all, the event is free of charge and open to the public, inviting everyone to come out and enjoy a wide variety of art in nearly every medium imaginable, from paintings and jewelry to ceramics, textiles, woodwork, and more.

A Passionate Artist Giving Back

One artist who truly embodies the spirit of this event is Bruce Bradford, a self-taught woodworker whose connection to Senior Services runs deep. For the past three years, Bradford has contributed his beautifully handcrafted charcuterie trays to the Art Show & Sale, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Meals-on-Wheels. But Bruce’s connection to Senior Services goes far beyond his role as an artist. In fact, it began 23 years ago when he first volunteered for the Meals-on-Wheels program.

Introduced to Meals-on-Wheels in 2002 by a close friend and mentor, Bruce began delivering meals to local seniors. What was meant to be a single ride-along evolved into a monthly volunteer commitment, which continued even after his mentor had to stop due to health concerns. Bruce not only took on his mentor’s route but also expanded his involvement, taking on an additional route. “It’s humbling to see how grateful people are for you helping them age in place with dignity,” Bruce says.

He continues to deliver meals to this day, touching lives through the act of simply being present and offering a hot meal with a smile. This hands-on connection to the Meals-on-Wheels program inspired him to contribute his art to the annual Art Show & Sale, creating even more opportunities to support the program he has always cared about.

Turning Scrap into Something Beautiful

Bruce’s unique contribution to the Art Show & Sale began in 2023 when he started donating his stunning, laminated charcuterie trays made from exotic woods. As a master woodworker, Bruce specializes in creating high-quality furniture such as tables, chairs, and case goods, often incorporating elements of the Danish Modern style. However, his work with larger furniture often left behind small “scrap” pieces of precious wood. Rather than let these beautiful remnants go to waste, Bruce turns them into colorful, multi-layered charcuterie boards, each one a functional work of art.

Bruce’s trays were an instant hit at the Art Show & Sale, and they’ve become a highly anticipated part of the event each year. In addition to their beauty, the trays serve as a symbol of Bruce’s dedication to supporting Senior Services and the older adults in our community. “I guess my real creativity and the reason for what I do is just to provide a service to the community by doing the things that I like to do,” he reflects.

A Celebration of Art, Community, and Giving Back

This year, Bruce’s trays will be displayed alongside more than 70 other talented artists, some returning, some new, who are all donating a portion of their sales to benefit Meals-on-Wheels. Whether you’re looking for a painting, a piece of jewelry, a hand-woven basket, a ceramic bowl, or a beautiful piece of woodwork, there will be something for everyone. Every piece sold helps to provide hot meals, wellness checks, and critical support to older adults across Forsyth County.
