Age-Friendly Forsyth

A collaborative, community-led program focused on making Forsyth County the place to live your best life!

An age-friendly community is one that is designed to be livable for people of all ages and abilities, by focusing on making the community a place where individuals can age actively and participate fully in civic and social life. This involves creating a supportive physical and social environment that enables people to remain independent, connected, and engaged in their communities.

Age-Friendly Forsyth is a program of Senior Services that engages and informs aging adults and community partners on ways to create a livable community through strategic collaborative planning, advocacy and awareness, and community data gathering, analysis, and reporting.

Aging Advocates are community members who help inform the work of Age-Friendly Forsyth and are heavily involved in community engagement.

This resident leadership group serves as a bridge, connecting work happening within the age-friendly initiative to other community members in their local neighborhoods. This is accomplished by connecting with residents, hearing and communicating community needs at relevant meetings and sharing their opinions on need areas at Aging Advocate meetings.

The Aging Services Provider Group is comprised of nonprofit, business leaders and other community stakeholders who are committed to leveraging their talents and resources to ensure that Forsyth County is an age-friendly community.

Age-Friendly Forsyth’s community data and research process began in 2017. Over 100 organizational and community members participated in this process, which focused on:

  • publicly available data
  • determining factors that affect quality of life
  • implementation of a telephone survey of 1002 adults aged 60 and older
  • best practices research

A data and research report, which included preliminary findings from the research process, was presented to all committees and work groups. Preliminary findings helped inform questions posed to the community through three Community Conversations events. The Community Conversations provided direct community perspective from 120 additional community members.

Age-Friendly Forsyth is powered, in part, by local organizations that seek to create lasting impact.
