Sharon Perrone, part of the Senior Services Finance team, is known for her cheerful, positive attitude. She never hesitates to roll up her sleeves and jump in to get things done, no matter the task or the ask. Sharon believes that when team members have a positive attitude about achieving a shared goal, they can build a strong foundation that will overcome any challenge and produce excellent results. “I really do believe that teamwork makes the dream work! You can’t be excellent alone – you can try, but it’s a lot easier when there is a team motivated goal.”
Perrone joined Senior Services in July 2019 as a Lead Accountant. Although her prior experience focused on the for-profit banking sector, learning the nonprofit side of accounting has been eye opening and enjoyable. Among many other responsibilities, Sharon processes payroll, records general ledger transactions, produces 
financial statements and reports, implements process improvements. She also performs budget analysis, audit and tax preparations, and executes internal controls.
While the technical side of her job duties keep her very busy, her true professional joy comes from the Senior Services mission. “I love the people and what the agency stands for. I love my job because it’s accounting with a purpose—to serve internally and externally. I started off as a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer in another county and helped with fundraising. Senior Services has a mission that I already believed in and supported.”
Sharon attributes her perspective on teamwork and optimism to her early experiences as a child along with her work experience in banking. “I grew up as the youngest child in a rural community. I’ve always been a social person with a desire to connect with others and be around people. While I was in banking, we had goals. I noticed that when we connected with each other and believed that we could do it, we were always successful. When we were unsuccessful, it was during times that there was no teamwork or collaboration.”
Anytime a challenge presents itself, Perrone is quick to lend a helping hand and offer solutions that get things done. “Part of teamwork is compromise. You can achieve better results when you are willing to negotiate and demonstrate give and take. It’s important to agree on what’s beneficial for all parties. It’s all about balance.”
Sharon, recalls one of her first experiences with how the Senior Services staff demonstrates optimism as a team. “I was still fairly new and there was a power outage in the building. Everyone pulled together to get meals delivered. Seeing how everyone jumped in to get it done gave me insight on the agency’s attitude toward teamwork. We do a great job. Everyone in each department works well together to serve the community by completing individual daily tasks and it all fits together.”
“The agency can make a larger difference to the community we serve when we demonstrate teamwork. Many more goals and achievements can be accomplished when we work together and support each other.”
